Please support a quiet library environment | Letter

I love the Orcas Library. So much good reading, materials to enjoy. The design of the library works too. Its a beautiful location with wonderful views.

I love going to the library exploring books, reading materials, immersing myself in novels, research articles and news.

I love that it’s social. I see friends in the entrance and outside and we chat and catch up. Lovely. At home it can be busy, phones ringing, people visiting, children engaged in stuff.

What a respite coming to a quiet library and enjoy some time catching up on things. It’s quiet. Yet, if I want to chat up friends, there’s a conference room and outside hall area with chairs, and space so I can talk in my outdoor voice.

I hope the library remains the quiet paradise it is. Even if it means installing new quiet panels and better signage that encourages visitors to the library to be respectful of people reading, even if they are there for meetings or to chat and socialize.

It’s actually quite nice that Orcas folks are so open with their conversations and we enjoy that at Enzo’s, the Island Market, Homegrown, and all the merchant shops around. The library represents a respect for knowledge, learning and concentration that are so deeply ingrained in our history. Let’s support a quiet library.
