More than 150 participate in July 4th 5K | Letter

The Funhouse Commons 4th of July 5K event was a tremendous success. Generations of participants ended the event that raised funds for youth programming at the Funhouse.

This was the eighth year of the Funhouse July 4th run/walk. The event is a blend of locals and guests to the island.

One enthusiastic mother of two participants shared, “We’ve made this an annual event as part of our visit to Orcas!”

A total of 155 runners and walkers participated in the 5K and 49 children and family members participated in the 1K. The overall winner of the 5K for the third year in a row was Lachlan Boyd. Meredith Thieme had her first win this year as the overall female winner of the race. More race results can be seen at: https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=187135#wsbtnsec.

Orcas Distillery had the largest team registered by race day, with other fun teams closely behind such as by Team Happy Heart from The Barnacle and a team wearing unicorn horns to celebrate Megan’s 40th Birthday.

It was more than a race from the Village Green through the streets of Eastsound — it was a gathering of babies, children, parents, grandparents, friends, and family celebrating on the morning of the 4th of July, dancing, cheering on participants, making new friends and reconnecting.

The Funhouse would like to express its sincere appreciation to all volunteers and participants who helped make this event so amazing. Next year the race will be on Friday, July 3.

Funhouse Executive Director Emilie Gincig shared, “It has been wonderful to see how this event has grown and to have familiar faces show up year after year. From volunteers to participants to staff, I am touched by how many people show up to support the Funhouse and am already looking forward to next year’s race!”
