Miller not to seek re-election to health care district | Letter

It has been my privilege to serve as one of your Hospital District Commissioners for the Orcas Island Health Care District since the start of the PHD in 2018. I am very proud of the accomplishments of the district and how our board has worked together to gain a comprehensive understanding of the health care needs of our community and the options available to best deliver the needed services. I am especially proud of the transparency we have provided on the health care delivery model and hope that this transparency has helped the community gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of delivering those services. When dealing with complex issues, a public process is sometimes a messy process, especially when those issues relate to something as personal as your health care. I thank the community for your support as we worked through those issues. If you do not feel that you have a better understanding of what it takes to provide health care services to our community, I encourage you to attend one of our meetings and provide public comment or write to any of your commissioners. We are truly here to serve you.

I will not be seeking reelection to the board at the end of my term this year. The period to register as a candidate for this position opens very soon and the details for how to file for office can be found at https://www.sanjuanco.com/1221/Elections-Office. I hope that a number of you will consider the opportunity to contribute to the continued improvement of health care delivery for our community. Over the next several years the board will continue to expand its long-range planning while they fine-tune the primary care partnership with Island Hospital. This will be a great opportunity for new voices and ideas to be heard.

If you are elected you will have the privilege of working with a dream team of fellow commissioners and an extremely dedicated and competent Superintendent Anne Presson. Please consider serving your community in this important role. Thank you again for allowing me to serve you.
