Happy holidays from the Lions Club | Letter

Dear Orcas friends and neighbors,

As members of the Orcas Lions Club, we, like everyone else, in this wonderful community, have been immensely affected by this once in a lifetime pandemic! Like many other organizations, we have had to cancel most of our community projects this year because of the safety issue with Covid-19. The Easter Egg hunt was canceled in the Spring,, In addition we were NOT able to see so many of our friends at our Annual Salmon Barbecue in July. We will also have to bypass our usual holiday fruit baskets for isolated/people and senior citizens who are living alone. Sadly, our multiple district has cancelled the Christmas Ship, therefore we will be unable to support that project, as well this year.

Thankfully we WERE able to award $18,000.00 in Annual Scholarships to graduating seniors! Our Mobility program, at the Senior Center, is open and flourishing. We have also been able to provide some sight relief to individuals due to your generosity by donating to our White Canes project.

Even though we had to cancel our two biggest money making projects, our annual Salmon Barbecue and our tent rental fund raiser, which have impacted our funds, we look forward to a time when we can meet and greet those in this giving community again! We are, and have always been, grateful to the community for your support. One of the best parts of being a Lions Club Member is interacting with members of our community, but we want to wish you the best, safest holiday season! We look forward to meeting with you again in the future. Happy Holidays from all the Orcas Island Lions Club Members!
