Grilled cheese event a success | Letter

The Orcas Island Education Foundation wants to congratulate Dante Miller of Roses Café and Bakery for being the winning chef in our 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Showdown. His winning sandwich was a semi-soft cheese and mushroom moray on grilled Roses hearth bread.

We would also like to thank ALL of the chefs for their amazing talent and good humor. Thanks to: Raymond Southern (Executive Chef at Rosario Resort and Spa), Charles Dalton (owner/chef The Kitchen), Geddes Martin (co-owner/chef Inn at Ship Bay), Madden Surbaugh, (chef and Assistant General Manager at the Orcas Food Co-op), and Steve Hardee (chef at The Lower). Their sandwiches were all incredible and we cannot thank them enough.

A special thanks to Island Market for their donation of soup bowls. And a shout-out to the volunteers who helped pull this off: Kyle Freeman, Kim Freeman, Janna Carter, Phil Carter, Landon Carter, Bethany Carter, David Kau, Susan Stoltz, Millie Kau, Ronan Kau, Elyn Andersson, Blythe Simpson, Lance Evans, Krista Bouchey, Rebecca Hardee, Heather Southern, and Janet Brownell. Jason Nichols (of the OISD) was a super-hero in getting the space ready for us to invade.

Most off all, thank you to the well over 150 people who attended. You made this event joyous. We will be back next year – and hope you can come again! Thanks to all.
