Farewell to a Jedi clinician

As one of your paramedics on Orcas Island, and as a personal friend, I am deeply saddened that our community is losing Dr. Evan Buxbaum. I called Evan at 6 a.m. last year when I suspected the first 10 cases of H1N1 on the islands. He has called me on a few occasions too.

I can honestly say that his quick actions have saved some young lives on Orcas. In just one year we have taught together, saved a few lives together and I have come to know his deep moral commitment to the pediatric community.

Evan Buxbaum is also a great teacher and has helped all of us paramedics, as well as our talented group of volunteer EMTs.

Evan is one of the most compassionate, community-oriented people I have ever met.

This is a tribute to Dr. Buxbaum and not an editorial, but I’m just sayin’: we will be losing a true “Gem of the San Juans.”
