Letters.

The Healing Arts Center, established in Eastsound in 1988, is nearing completion of our years-long building preservation project and energy efficiency upgrades. With generous community support, we continue to steward our 1904 farmhouse into the 21st century with necessary repairs and upgrades. To date, islanders have funded a new foundation, a metal roof, heat pumps, insulation and siding, new windows on the east half of the building, and a new deck and front garden, which are open to the public!

This year, we launched the Community Health Initiative (CHI), which offers subsidized, low-cost healthcare treatments for islanders who qualify based on income. In administrative partnership with the Orcas Community Resource Center, HAC practitioners provided vouchers for over 100 treatments this year. We continue to find new ways to engage with the community and provide services accessible for all islanders.

To ensure that you can receive treatments in a safe, comfortable environment, we are seeking funds to complete the replacement of remaining single-pane windows with energy-efficient double-pane windows. Our grant request of $15,000 in this winter’s GiveOrcas campaign will pay about 80% of the estimated cost of the current project, including materials and labor. The Healing Arts Center will cover the remaining costs. Please consider including the Healing Arts Center in your giving this holiday season! Because we are an entirely volunteer-run organization, your gift of any dollar amount will go directly and entirely towards the building project. You can view our funding request and make your gift at giveorcas.org.

We are grateful for the thousands of islanders and visitors who have received massage, acupuncture, psychotherapy, allopathic care, and other treatments at the center over the past 37 years. Your health and wellbeing are our reason for showing up every day!
