The Artsmith Salon Series had a big, flaming year. For our second season, we opened with fire dancing, provided DJ and musical accompaniment for writers reading their work, hosted the first poetry slam in the San Juans, brought 15 fearless writers to the island, moved to a monthly format, and moved to Eastsound. This no-budget project had copious support to pull it off October through June, and keep it a free, public event. The following people of Orcas helped bring the art of the written word here in a deeper and more diverse way. I thank them for donations of dollars, time, and talent, as well as their belief in the power of an open forum.
