Art show is a gift to the community | Letter

We are the 5th grade Host/Hostesses of the K-12 Student Art Show at the Orcas Center during April. We had a blast at the Opening Party on Friday, April 1.  We were so surprised that so many people came. The Orcas Center  was packed and it was awesome.

We led about 79 art scavenger hunts and gave out art pencils. As reporters we interviewed 56 guests about the art show. As art critics we encouraged comments in the guest book. We watched the happy second and third graders dance. As art docents we taught our own LeFauve style of landscapes and seascapes … merci to our students. We listened to the violinist play beautiful music and munched on great snacks.

Here are some of the thoughtful comments we heard:

“Happy to see such amazing variety and all grades expressing themselves is cool.”

“Technical proficiency and caliber of creativity is impressive.”

“Display is beautiful and very stimulating.”

“Bold colors are spectacular and inspiring.”

“So many different mediums everywhere you look.”

“Best reception, best dancers,  best music, best snacks, and the best artists hosting.”

“A tribute to the Art Education Programs on Orcas Island.”

“The amount of expression, energy, and talent is just amazing.”

“I personally find kids art more exciting than adult art.”

So if you missed the party, please visit the Orcas Center during April.  Sign the guest book so we can read your comments. Beware of  dinosaur in the lobby … if he is not sleeping. Have fun!
