Napa to offer free car inspections

In conjunction with Crescent Service and Orcas Autotech, Napa will be conducting free vehicle safety inspections for anyone on the island.

The event is part of National Car Care Awareness Month, which is in April and October.

“We’ve wanted to do it for several years,” said Napa owner Perry Pugh. “A lot of people never pay attention to their lights until they get stopped by an officer for having a light out. The Car Care Council provides the inspection (guidelines) for us, and it’s somewhere between 20 and 50 items we’ll look at. At the time that we make this inspection, we keep a copy, the customer gets a copy, and I send a copy to the Car Council.”

The inspections will be from 9 to 4 p.m. at the Napa store on Saturday, Oct. 23. In addition to checking over your car, Napa will fill windshield washer solvent for free and install wiper blades and lights at no cost (while the labor is free, customers need to buy the parts, which will be offered at a reduced price).

“Crescent Service and Orcas Autotech, both branded Napa Autocare, will be providing the technical knowledge to do the inspections,” Pugh said. “Three or four peple from the Orcas Road Classic Club will volunteer to help direct traffic.”

Pugh requests that car owners make a reservation at 376-4901.

“We’re planning on 100 cars, and we have seven workers,” he said. “We should be able to knock out one car every 10 to 15 minutes.”
