Local surveyor earns federal BLM certification

Greg White, P.L.S., of Archipelago Surveying in Eastsound, is among 350 professional land surveyors nationwide to recently earn a certification from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to be a Certified Federal Surveyor, or CFedS. At this time, White is the only CFedS surveyor in San Juan County.

The CFedS program, which has been approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, was designed specifically to enhance the level of knowledge and expertise in the professional land surveying community for survey work performed on federal lands, especially on Indian trust lands. To earn the CFedS designation, professional land surveyors must complete approximately 120 hours of course materials prepared by the BLM’s National Training Center, in Phoenix, Arizona, and pass the certification examination. To maintain the certification, a CFedS must complete 10 hours of continuing education annually.

White will continue to serve the surveying needs of the local community, but will also work with tribes in Northwest Washington, as it has been his long time goal to work with the Native American community.
