The Orcas Viking football team’s playoff hopes are still alive after they crushed the Concrete Lions 48-27 in a must-win game at home on Oct. 29.
The game was special not only because a Vikings loss would have ended their hopes of returning to post-season play for the third straight year, but it was also the last home game for the seniors as well as “Coach” Dennis Dahl’s final game on Orcas. After 22 years of coaching, Dahl is retiring.
The Vikings improved to 2-2 in league play and are in position for a second place finish in the Northwest-Seatac League. Second place finish would qualify them for the playoffs. Their two league losses were both by one point including a double overtime loss to the undefeated Crusaders from Tacoma Baptist.
The Orcas Vikings traveled to Fife to face the Chief Leschi Warriors in a Northwest/Seatac league face-off last Saturday.
The Orcas Vikings football team traveled to Bellevue to take on the division 1A Bellevue Christian Vikings in a non-league battle on Oct. 1.
During its first league game of the season, the Vikings lost to Tacoma Baptist 35-34 in double overtime.

When this year’s version of Vikings football arrived at Memorial Stadium in Oak Harbor to play the Morton-White Pass (MWP) Timberwolves in round one of the state playoffs, their preparation was only surpassed by their determination.
With Orcas trailing the underdog La Conner Braves at halftime 7-6, senior Michael Langworthy brought the critical game into focus for a young Viking squad, saying, “These are the kind of football games I love. This is football. Let’s go boys.”
