According to San Juan County Sheriff Bill Cumming, the power boat discovered on the beach in Eastsound on the morning of Aug. 6 looked as though the ignition had been tampered with.

The owner was identified as Scott Dennis. The 25-foot boat was stolen from a private marina in La Conner after 9 p.m. shortly after use by Dennis.

It is still unconfirmed if the boat was run until it ran out of fuel and left in the water to drift into Fishing Bay or if it was purposely grounded.
