Orcas High School students Adrien Erickson, Ashley McCloskey, Kati Dawn Pinardi, and Stephanie Shaw, representing the members of the Orcas Island Prevention Partnership’s Point Blank leadership club, received the “Most Innovative” Project award April 29 at the Prevention Youth Summit at Great Wolf Lodge.
Prevention youth groups from around the state were “invited back” by Attorney General McKenna to attend the April conference after receiving training last November at the Prevention Summit held in Yakima. The club members, charged with doing a project that would impact their community, designed and created a series of anti-drug posters, hung them in the Orcas Middle and High Schools, and distributed them to Eastsound businesses to hang during April’s Alcohol Awareness Month. Funding support for transportation and meals during the trip was provided by San Juan County Health and Community Services.
