The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Dec. 17
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a trespassing incident in the downtown Eastsound area. The deputy learned that the landlord wanted his tenant to be trespassed from the property that the tenant is renting. The incident was documented as a civil matter.
• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding on Mud Bay Road. The driver was issued an infraction for failure to renew expired registration (three years late) and a warning for speed.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle in the 5100 block of Center Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy, along with Orcas Island Fire & Rescue, responded to a vehicle stuck in a 45-degree ditch. OIFR assisted the driver from the vehicle with an injury. The citizen was submitted for a Department of Licensing retest. The incident was documented.
• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a report of child abuse. An investigation was conducted, and the incident was documented.
Dec. 18
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a third-party reported sex offense. The investigation concluded that no crime had been committed.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to another report of a sex offense that had taken place locally between two minors. A report was taken. The case is ongoing.
• Deputies on San Juan Island contacted an individual who wanted to discuss an incident of harassment. A report was generated.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a citizen needing assistance with trespassing individuals from a property. The incident was documented, and the individuals involved will be notified that they have been trespassed from the property.
• On San Juan Island, a deputy stopped a vehicle for driving left of center. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and issued infractions for driving left center of roadway, failing to wear a safety belt and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Additional warnings were given.
Dec. 20
• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a possible prowler call.
Dec. 21
• A Lopez resident reported a text scam related to road toll collections.
Dec. 22
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 34 mph in a posted 20 mph speed zone on Crescent Beach Drive. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a dog at large. The owner was issued an infraction for dog-at-large, second offense. A report was completed.
Dec. 23
• Lopez Island deputies were approached regarding mail theft in the Village. The incident was documented.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a communications complaint. The complainant was advised of how to seek an anti-harassment order.
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Center Road and Kielhaven Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for no insurance, and additional warnings were given.
