The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 14

• Orcas deputies responded to a citizen assist. The individual was looking to surrender three firearms. Deputies received the firearms and processed them for safekeeping.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of mail theft. A report was completed.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 27 mph in a posted 20 mph speed zone on Main St. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and expired registration.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a residential burglary near the Enchanted Forest area. The burglary occurred when the resident was out of town. An investigation into this incident is underway, and the incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was issued infractions for driving 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone and operating a vehicle without insurance.

• A San Juan deputy contacted a driver for parking in the roadway. The driver was drinking alcohol when the deputy contacted them and nearly struck the deputy’s patrol car while hiding the beverage. The driver was arrested for DUI and was booked into jail.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a protection order violation. An investigation took place, and a review of the protection order was conducted. No violation occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a trespasser. The deputy checked the area but was unable to locate the person.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a trespasser. The deputy issued the suspect a warning letter.

May 15

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of two ex-employees taking table lamps from a restaurant. The individuals in question returned the lamps.

• A deputy was contacted about a runaway juvenile. After speaking with the parent, the parent did not wish to pursue anything at this time. A report was taken.

• San Juan deputies responded to the residence of a person known to have a warrant for their arrest for multiple violent felonies. The person was booked into jail.

• A San Juan deputy completed a records check on a vehicle parked on False Bay Road, which drove away shortly after. The initial return showed that the registration expired in 2016. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested for DUI.

May 16

• An Orcas deputy observed suspicious activity at a park in Eastsound. After investigating the suspicious activity, the citizen claimed that they were just sad and didn’t need help. The deputy offered resources to the person.

May 17

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a found debit card. The owner was not located and the card was entered into evidence.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding vehicle near Woodman Hall. The driver, a local man, was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 15 mph over the posted speed limit and expired registration. He was given a verbal warning for not having his driver’s license on him.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 41 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on North Beach Road. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• An Orcas deputy was conducting patrol near Lummi Nation land and observed someone had dumped a large amount of trash at the end of Haven Road. If you have information, contact the Sheriff’s Office.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver, a visitor to the island, was issued an infraction.

• A Lopez deputy stopped two different vehicles on Fisherman Bay Road. The drivers, both local men, were issued an infraction for not wearing a seatbelt.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for following too close. The driver was arrested for DUI.

May 18

• A Friday Harbor man made a report that the mother of his child was not following a parenting plan. The mother continues to not pick up their child at the agreed-upon pickup time.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a domestic incident on a vessel at the Port of Friday Harbor. The male was gone and the female reported it was verbal only.

May 19

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a non-injury accident on Mitchell Bay Road. The driver was tired while driving and decided to close his eyes. The vehicle went off the roadway and crashed. The driver was issued an infraction for driving with wheels off the roadway.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a vandalism call at a local business. The suspect was trespassed.

• Deputies on San Juan responded with San Juan emergency medical services and San Juan Fire to a report of CPR in progress. The patient was flown off the island for further care.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic incident. After speaking with the involved parties, probable cause for a crime was not established. One-half of the incident agreed to leave the area.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a juvenile in possession of marijuana. The marijuana vape pens were collected as evidence, and a probable cause statement for possession of marijuana under 21 was completed.

May 20

• A deputy on San Juan took a report over the phone of a domestic incident. Probable cause was not established.
