Aug. 14: A large bottle containing about 270 pills and $700 in assorted prescription medication vanished from an Orcas Island woman’s car in an apparent late-afternoon theft in Eastsound. The 64-year-old, in a haste to make a purchase, reportedly emptied the contents of her purse in the front seat of her car, grabbed some cash and rushed back into a shop, and left her car unlocked in a nearby parking lot. The medicine bottle reportedly was missing when she returned.

Aug. 18: An Orcas Island woman believes someone broke into her Deer Harbor home and stole her diamond wedding ring. The 74-year-old discovered that the ring was missing following a recent trip off-island.

Excessive speed prompted the arrest of an Orcas Island woman for driving with a suspended license following an early-morning traffic stop on Lopez Island. The 23-year-old, who was pulled over near the intersection of Center and Hummel Lake roads at about 7 a.m., was reportedly driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone at the time. She was charged with giving false information as well, and was also ticketed for driving without proof of insurance and without a vehicle registration, and for speeding.

An Orcas Island man was arrested for DUI following a fender-bender with an illegally parked car near the ferry terminal in Orcas Village at about 5:30 p.m. The 49-year-old, who reportedly crashed into the other vehicle while trying to turn his car around, was also ticketed for driving without a license, without proof of insurance and for unlawful parking. The owner of the other vehicle also was ticketed for parking in a no-parking zone.

Aug. 19: An 18-year-old Bothell woman was wounded by a pocket knife following an apparent altercation with a man at a campground on the west side of Orcas Island. The woman, who suffered a laceration on her upper chest, declined to provide details about the altercation while her wound was being treated at a medical clinic; the case remains under investigation.

Aug. 21: Four security cameras and a DVR disappeared in an apparent late-night theft at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Eastsound.
