Ordinance 47-2008, signed by the San Juan County Council on Nov. 5, 2008, required the establishment of a citizens’ Storm Water Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to provide advice to the county council and make recommendations on matters pertaining to storm water, including capital facilities, projects, priorities of projects, and other policy matters relating to the operation of an effective storm water utility.
This is a perfect opportunity for members of the community to participate in the development of current and future solutions to the issues of storm water management.
By ordinance, the Storm Water Advisory Committee will be composed of seven members, one from each council member’s district and one member at large. Each member will be appointed for a term of four years, the dates of which coincide with the full term of the respective council member’s district. The one at-large member’s term will coincide with the term of the council member in District 1.
Typically, advisory committees meet once a month (the place is yet to be determined) for two hours. It is the intention of the ordinance that recommendations made by the advisory committee would be received by July 1 of each year to allow the county council sufficient time to consider the recommendations prior to the adoption of the capital facilities plans.
We hope that interested citizens will contact the county council office through Maureen See, email: maureens@co.san-juan.wa.us or call us at 378-2898. A resume or letter of interest would be helpful.
