Orcas School hires firm to draw up bond plans

After extensive deliberation at a special meeting of the Orcas Island School Board on Sept. 30, the school hired the architectural firm Mahlum to draw plans for its upcoming bond project, which is slated to be on the February 2010 election.

The project will involve the design and construction of new spaces for the cafeteria, music room, library, and middle school, and a career and technical education building. The school received proposals from 17 architectural firms in the region. The school board held public interviews of nine of those firms in late September.

The school thanks the community for providing input and helping the board select Mahlum.
