Community members who enjoy singing are invited to audition as a solo or in a duet at the Grange on Saturday, Jan. 24 for Orcas Idol Season Four, which is set for Feb. 7 at the Orcas Center.

The first step of the auditioning process is to select a song and sign up for auditions. Songs used for Orcas Idol must be in karaoke style and can be downloaded from iTunes or copied from a karaoke disc. Some participants in the past have performed a cappella.

Contestants may sign up at the Funhouse on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. and submit their song on a disc or select one from the karaoke disc library. Orcas Idol committee members will be present to answer any questions and help with song selection. For those unable to sign up at The Funhouse, contact Jeanne Beck at jbeck@interisland.net.

Youth in grades five through eight are also invited to compete for the Orcas Idol Junior on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. Three judges will select one youth as the Orcas Idol Junior who will go on to perform at Orcas Idols finals. Adults will compete starting at 7:30 p.m. The adult winner or winners (if a duet is selected) will receive a $200 cash prize and a professional recording session.

Tickets for Orcas Idol will go on sale at the auditions. Community members may secure their tickets in advance and purchase reserved seats to this sell-out event by becoming an Orcas Idolizer. Orcas Idolizers donate $50 to help underwrite this event and may purchase up to two advance tickets at the regular price. Visit www.spotlightonthepositive.com, print and complete the Idolizer form and return it with a donation no later than Jan. 21.

The proceeds benefit Orcas Island Prevention Partnership, which brings together nine community organizations to promote a safe and healthy community free of substance abuse. Organizers say Orcas Island is blessed with many talented musicians and singers. Consider sharing your talent, your love of a good song, and help make Orcas Idol Season Four a wonderful night of fun and a successful fund-raiser for a safe and healthy community.
