Rosario Resort & Spa’s Festival of Trees raised some much-needed funding for seven local non-profit organizations.
Through the purchase of voting tickets, the public donated a total of $1,213 with each organization receiving the funds collected at their tree. The tree receiving the most votes was decorated by The Funhouse, which will receive an additional $300 from Rosario Resort. The second place tree was by Orcas Island Fire and Rescue, which will receive an additional $250 from Rosario. The third place tree was by Orcas Island Educational Foundation, receiving an additional $200 from Rosario. Friends of Moran, Kaleidoscope, OPAL Community Land Trust, and Orcas Island Choral Society also participated and will receive an additional $100 each from the resort.
“It really turned out to be a fun event,” said Jenole Peacock, the event organizer. “The best part was watching kids come in with their parents to find their pictures on the trees.”
Raffle prizes were also awarded with Orcas Islander Lois Cornell winning two round-trip tickets to Seattle on Kenmore Air with a two-night hotel stay. Val Harris won dinner for two at The Mansion Restaurant and Bernadette Vinson won a two-month spa pass.
“We have already started planning for a bigger Festival of Trees event next year,” Peacock said.
