Skagit Valley College class on understanding the financial crisis

The origins of the financial crisis, how the credit crunch led to increasing losses and general panic, and what we learned from the Great Depression will be discussed during the seminar “Understanding the Financial Crisis … Past, Present, and Future Realities.”

The class will be led by Dr. Edwin Dolan, a resident of Lopez Island and author of a widely used economics textbook, in addition to numerous other books and articles on banking, monetary policy and environmental issues.

Dolan teaches economic policy and global economics each fall at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Latvia and the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University and has taught at Dartmouth College, the University of Chicago, George Mason University and schools in the United States and Europe.

This is a free, educational seminar sponsored by the Associated Students of Skagit Valley College and will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lopez Island Senior Center, Saturday, Jan. 24, from, 1 to 4 p.m. at the San Juan Island Mullis Center, and Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
