Local coverage inspires important conversations | Letter

Thank you for putting the article “Three San Juan Island women detained and deported by Homeland Security” as the headline on the July 15 issue. We have the papers at my place of work and there’s one copy left of that issue. That paper gets tons of visitor attention when they come through. It’s opened up many conversations that I would not normally have with strangers. Please keep highlighting issues that feel far from home but are actually occurring right here. Awareness breeds compassion.
