Sailing team hits the water

The Orcas High School Sailing Team started spring practices on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in preparation for its first North West Interscholastic Sailing Association regatta the Anacortes Frost Bite on Saturday, March 3. The Anacortes Frost Bite regatta fielded 23 teams from the NWISA North Region and was one of three regional NWISA regattas around the PNW.

Eight sailors from the team and head coach Hannah Tuson-Turner traveled to the regatta, where the sun came out and a brisk North Wind blew, making for great racing on the water. The Orcas sailors had a lot of fun, enjoyed the fantastic venue and sailed very well, competing in 12 races over the course of the day. The Vikings No. 1 team grabbed second overall while the Vikings No. 2 team took a solid sixth place.

The team traveled to the combined division regatta at Sail Sandpoint on March 10 and 11. The sailors took second place in both the gold and silver divisions.
