Several Lopez and Orcas basketball players were honored for their hard work this season with all league selection.

On Lopez, William Carson was chosen as all league player of the year on the first team. He was one of just ten 1B players selected to compete at an all state basketball team played against the 2b league in Lynnwood Saturday, March 12.

“The whole boys’ team and most of the girls’ team, parents and teachers all came down to watch,” said coach M.R. Buffum. “That was a pretty big honor; he was only the third guy ever from Lopez to be chosen [as player of the year].” Kelvin Jardine was named to the all league first team and Nate Drahn was selected for the all league second team.

Of the lady Lobos, Sarah Stanley was picked for first team, and Marina Steinbruck and Erin Dye for second team. Debbie Buffum was named coach of the year.

“Eryn … is just starting to show the world how awesome she is on offense,” said Debbie. “Marina … is incredibly strong and quick and rebounds with the best of the best.” Added Debbie, “the girls … would definitely credit their teammates with some of their success. They understand that it takes a TEAM to win games. We were at our best when everybody worked together regardless of who was doing the scoring. They are all to be credited for that effort and the success that came from it.”

On Orcas freshman Bella Nigretto was selected for all league second team, and junior Robbie Padbury was given all league honorable mention.
