Jordan Smith hands baton to Sebastian Lasbo for the final leg of the 4 x 400m relay. The Lobos won the event to qualify for the State Championship Meet.

The Lopez boys’ track team dominated the competition at the NW B Bi-District State Championship qualifying meet in Shorleine on Saturday, May 17 to win by a significant margin. The girls’ team was second to North Sound Christian by 5 points.

Ten boys and eight girls have qualified to advance to the State Meet by placing among the top three finishers in their events. “Eighteen kids is phenomenal from such a small school,” said coach Steve Wilbur. “We took eight last year – which was pretty good.”

Jordan Smith in the 100m run, 4 x 100m relay, 4 x 400m relay and high jump.

Terrell Carter in the 400m run, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay.

Sebastian Lasbo in the 400m run, 800m run, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m.

Two relay alternates, Emmett Lawrence and Tucker Hoffman, will accompany the team.

Qualifying

Ruthie DeGraaf in the 400m run, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 200m relay.

Rosanna DeGraaf in 4 x 100 rrlay and 4 x 200m relay.

Lisa Vaughn in the 4 x 100m relay.

Lindsey Cummins in the 3200m run and 4 x 200m relay.

The relay alternate is Maddie Rain.

The boys set three new school records. Terrell Carter won the 400m in 51.76 seconds, Jordan Haber took the 110m high hurdles in 17.03 seconds and the 4 x 100m relay team of Lasbo, Carter, Farris and Smith won the 4X100 relay in 46.08 seconds. Carter’s 400m run and the 4 x 100m relay team’s times are now the fastest times to date in the State 1B division and stand excellent chances of placing first at State.

“Nearly everyone ran a season’s personal best,” said coach Wilbur. Erin Wilbur knocked four seconds off her previous best 300m hurdles time for a berth at state. Other significant person records were Fisher in the 3200m, Lasbo in the 800m and Barr in both 110m and 300m hurdles races. Laura Strom set a personal best in the triple jump for first place at the meet.

PostvanderBerg came back from a leg injury that has kept him from practicing most of the season to place third in the 1600m and Ben Strom, running the 3200m for only the second time this year, placed third for a spot on the State team with a personal best.

The Lopez team travels to Cheney, Wash. for the State 1B Championships on May 23-24.
