The Orcas Christian School Saints are excited about another great year of high school sports. This will be the third year at the helm for Saints Athletic Director Breezy Davis.

“Since the start of our program we have seen great things happen at OCS,” she said. “Students’ grades have come up, student morale has improved and they have another opportunity to be proud of the hard work they do.”

Under her leadership the Saints have seen their program grow in numbers and success. She has also seen the program produce two Coach of the Year awards, two league championships, one district championship, two Tri-District appearances and multiple players receiving all league honors.

“I am very pleased with where our program is and where we are going, our coaches work hard and we all have our student athletes best interest in mind. It is a true honor to be able to lead this program,” Davis said.

The Saints are also lucky to have Merrick Parnell in the role of Student Athlete Adviser. Parnell has an outstanding relationship with programs and coaches all across the Pacific Northwest. Last year he was able to secure five college offers and two athletic scholarships for Saints PG Michael Harris.

“Merrick does a great job getting our players exposure and tryouts for various colleges in our region,” said boys’ basketball coach Ryan Davis. “He is another great resource to have for our student athletes.”

Leading our Lady Saints basketball program will be first year head coach Jay Sack. He was with the men’s team last year, helping lead them to a league and district championship.

“Coach Jay is the best coach I have worked with,” Ryan said. “He is great with the kids and knows how to get his message across. The girls are lucky to have him.”

Last year’s team captain Caitlin Fowler said, “Coach Jay will bring new ideas. He has a plan and will use his players in roles fitting them to execute his plan. He will bring new energy to our team.”

Breezy is also the women’s volleyball coach. She brings a lot of experience to the table, having played four years of volleyball at Walla Walla University, two as team captain. In her two previous years the girls’ team has grown in experience and love of the game. The season home opener is on Sept. 22.

As a WIAA 1B team, OCS has the opportunity to have eighth graders play on high school teams. Sofia Villarreal will be one of them this year.

“I feel pretty lucky to be coached by such an inspiring and great person. I am pretty excited to be learning more and more,” Villarreal said.

Ryan who is reigning NW1B Coach of the Year, will be running the men’s basketball team for his second year.

“This is a great group of guys and I am lucky to be apart of it,” he said. “This year I expect great things out of our guys.”

Ryan says Cameron Aragon has stepped up into a leadership role, and has worked very hard this summer to improve his game.

“I can already tell Coach Davis is excited about coaching my brother, Corey, and I as well as our new young core of Saints this year,” Aragon said.

Troy O’neal will be joining Coach Ryan on the men’s staff.
