After fighting an intense battle on the soccer pitch, the Orcas Girls’ Soccer Team finally fell 2-1 to Friday Harbor in the second of a five minute golden goal attempt that had both teams struggling for supremacy. Friday Harbor finally scored the definitive goal two minutes into the second five minute overtime to win the game 2-1.

Coach Chama Anderson commented, “My players ran with heart and intensity and played great as a team. I could not have been prouder. Their passing game and the cooperation that went into their drives down the pitch displayed excellent teamwork.”

Orcas scored halfway through the first half of the soccer match, making it 1-0. The tide of the game ebbed and flowed in the second half; Friday Harbor scored later with five minutes left in the second half, after a valiant attempt by Orcas to stop their passing game. Tied at the end of the second half (soccer games are made up of two 45 minute halves and a 15 minute halftime) Orcas lost in the second five minute overtime golden goal, in which the first team to score a goal on the other team wins the game. The Orcas team had a total number of 22 shots on goal and Friday Harbor had 14 shots.

The Orcas Girls’ Soccer team plays against the La Conner Soccer Team on Orcas, Thursday 3:00 pm, October 2.
