Orcas girls swarmed by Hurricanes

The Orcas girls basketball team ran into a buzzsaw in its opening game, going up against an excellent Mount Vernon Christian team, and losing 77-16.

Coach Craig Sanders said the Hurricanes were a very talented and “well-drilled team.” Sanders said Mount Vernon Christian went on a European tour this summer to hone its skills.

Sanders did say his girls showed “moments of brillance.

“The girls were outmaneuvered but not outhustled,” he said.

Editors note: Both the Seattle Times and the Everett Herald published a score for this game of Orcas 55, Mount Vernon Christian 43. That score is incorrect.
