The Second Annual Orcas Island Rowing Club St. Patrick’s Day Regatta was held on March 16 on Cascade Lake. The event pitted the high school novice and varsity rowers against adult rowers in an informal format.

“The event was typically Orcas-style: informal and unpredictable,” said Master Rower Martin Taylor. “It is never certain how many alumni will turn up. So, all of the races were a ‘mixed bag’ and arranged at the last minute.”

Racing took place over a straight 1,000 meter course laid out by Mike Reid and Dave Roseberry. The quad races had boats with a mixture of adults, alumni, varsity and novice rowers.

The men’s doubles were won by the team of varsity rowers Sam Parish and Barrett North. The men’s quad was won by the mixed team of varsity and alumni racers of Grace Thompson (cox), Sam Parish, Sidney Hayworth, Morgan Borman and John Russell. The women’s quad was won by the combined team of: Danny Armstrong (cox), Tina Brown, Samantha Tidwell, Tika Thorson and Annalies Schuh.
