Orcas Island Rowers competed in the Lake Stevens Sculling Regatta on April 14 against 15 northwest clubs, including teams from Canada and Idaho.
Novice Devon Mann performed well in her first Novice Women's Single race while Sky Bear Aguila and Liam Nutt as well as Gunnar Sandwith and Michael Chesher all gained valuable racing experience in doubles races. Mann joined the novice men to race in a Novice Men's 4x and rowed with Melanie Flint in a women’s varsity double.
Varsity rowers Mikail Van Maren, Cameron Schuh, Jay Zier, Jake Zier and cox captain Max Blackadar raced to a victory in the first heat of the men’s 4x but fought flooding in the final. Zach Wolford and Garrett Pietsch both raced men’s singles while Pietsch pared up with Jay for a close race in the men’s double. Captain Jake cruised to a win in his qualifying 1x heat race and won the men’s varsity 1x.
