Our library is more than just books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs

Our library is more than just books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs. It is a warm and welcoming place for our children to spend rainy winter afternoons. When our children were younger, we read books together and then took a stack home. As they grew, they enjoyed playing their violin for their first performance at the library. During the holidays, they made ornaments and visited Mr. and Mrs. Claus. They participated in Summer Reading programs and the library’s book club. Although they are much older now, they still visit the library and have the best memories of their time spent there.

Libraries invoke a sense of community spirit and our Orcas Island Library manifests this in a huge way. Our library is a safe and welcoming place for EVERYONE on Orcas.

We can use the computers, hold meetings, and/or leave something for our friend with our trusted and much-loved librarian or volunteer. We can make copies, peruse the bulletin board or pick up a Dental Van application and drop it off in the box in front of the library. How much do I love our library?

To quote Ben Franklin (founder of the first library), “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” Please vote “YES” to approve the levy and help our library continue to grow as our community grows.
