Please complete the “Ticketing Ordinance” as soon as possible. I am among the many citizens of San Juan County who are outraged by the clear-cutting of old-growth trees near Moran State Park.

As stated in articles in The Islands Sounder issues of September 18 and 25, 2008, a lack of meaningful consequences has resulted in flouting of county ordinances.

Councilmember Knapp has pointed to a recent San Juan Initiative study that found nearly half of the 19 docks it reviewed – all on San Juan Island’s Mitchell Bay – ended up, on average, having floats that are 50 percent larger than their respective permits allowed.

The County Council has requested that you act swiftly in completing the drafting of the “Ticketing Ordinance.” The citizens of San Juan County also request that you act swiftly.

Thank you,

Janet Alderton
