Orcas Fire helped out in a time of need | Letter

July 11, 2013 · Updated 4:12 PM

I came to Orcas 10 years ago to help a friend out on a painting job from Bellingham. I immediately felt how special this place is and moved here. This has been confirmed over and over again through the years.

A couple of weeks ago I was in a situation that confirmed this once again.

I suffer from severe chronic depression. My provider was out of town with no back up to get a refill on my antidepressant medication.

After a couple of weeks of trying to tough it out and continuing to ask the pharmacy if they made contact yet, I was at the end of my rope.

On a Sunday I walked into our local fire department and asked them if they could help. They totally took care of me and got the pharmacy to open on Sunday and went and picked up my medications.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for them and how far out of their way they went to help me. Our local fire department is truly exceptional … only on Orcas.
