Roger Adams responds to 'Truth about Highlands' well' | Letter

It should be obvious that the "Truth about Highlands' well" is that $90,000 was spent on drilling two wells intended to serve only the Orcas Highlands'  homeowners and that the Eastsound taxpayers are stuck with the bill.

Though Jim Hennessey speculates that, "…I can imagine the investment will turn out to be very profitable as water sources on the island become scarce while demand increases…" it will not happen without the expenditure of significantly more money necessary to treat the well water contaminated with E. coli. If this had been feasible to do in the first place, it would have happened.

I hope the rosy future where water becomes scarce enough to justify this further expense is still a long ways off. If it isn't, the Eastsound Sewer & Water District has utterly failed its mission: protecting our drinking water supply.
