Marcile Greaves

Marcile Greaves passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her home in Eastsound, Wash. She was born on May 21, 1937 in Oklahoma City, to Henry and Maudena Ottinger. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, where she was raised. Marcile attended college at Louisiana State University, graduating from the University of Utah, and was a proud member of Delta Gamma sorority. She married J.W. Dan Greaves on March 23, 1961, in Seattle. Together they raised their family in Seattle, Yakima, and Orcas Island for 50 beautiful years. Marcile loved to ski, play tennis, and watch baseball in her youth. Later, fishing, sewing and building their dream home on Orcas Island became her passion. She finished her home on Orcas Island in 2005 and then went fishing for the elusive big salmon, which she caught at Rivers Inlet in British Columbia. Marcile also enjoyed collecting Native art and went on many trips through Canada in search of just the right pieces to fit in her collection. Marcile is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dr. J.W. Dan Greaves; two children, Beth Greaves of Yakima and Eric Greaves of Orcas Island; and her sister, Mary Jane Cork of Salt Lake City. Marcile also loved her extended family, Steve and Sheri Greaves of Seattle, Tom and Margaret Greaves of Pennsylvania, and her nieces and nephews. She also remembers her best friend Ann Waltersdorph of Orcas Island and her many friends at Northstar Lodge in Yakima. Memorials may be made to either Northstar Lodge of Yakima or Lifeflight on Orcas Island. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Marcile, sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
