Earnest B. Granville | Passages

Earnest B. Granville, 96, of Anacortes passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, five months and 14 days following his wife’s (Elaine) passing.

Earnest was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma on Dec. 2, 1921, the son of Howard and Julia (Birdsong) Granville. The family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Earnest graduated in 1939 from Arlington Heights High School. He attended Rice Institute and Texas A & M before receiving the appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated with the class of ’46 on June 6, 1945, with a B. S. degree in petroleum engineering.

Earnest and Lt. Jg. (USNR) Elaine Elsner of North Fond du Lac, WI were married at the Academy Chapel June 7, 1945., after which he served aboard the USS LSMR 510. He retired from the Navy in 1947.

Earnest was a registered professional Petroleum Engineer and supervised drilling, production and completion of oil and gas wells in Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Wyoming and Saskatchewan, Canada for 30 years. He retired in 1976. He and Elaine moved from Denver to Orcas Island in 1981. He served as Commander of the Pole Pass Power Squadron in 1986 and Commodore of the Orcas Yacht Club In 1987.

They moved to Anacortes in January 2000. Earnest was predeceased by his mother, Julia, his father, Howard, his wife, Elaine. He is survived his brother: John Granville, of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter: Susan Jousma and her son Michael Jousma of Big Fork, Montana; a son: James Earnest Granville (LeeAnn) of Mariposa, California; grandsons: Christopher and Andrew Granville; great-grandsons: Brenden, Kayden and Quincy; niece, Laura Ann Granville; nephews: Ernie Granville and Kurt Urban (Juanita).
