The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 30

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle in Friday Harbor for expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance and warned about the expired registration.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a walk-in report of a hit-and-run that occurred in a private parking lot. The reporting party had no suspect or witness information and needed a report for insurance purposes.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a harassment call near Eastsound. After the investigation was completed, no criminal action was found, and the reporting party was informed about what actions they could take on their own.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a runaway juvenile in Friday Harbor. The juvenile was located and taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to a driver for not having proof of liability insurance and a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.

• A deputy responded to Lopez Village for a welfare check. The subject was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a driver a citation for not having proof of liability insurance and a warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Jan. 31

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of an unwanted person. The person was contacted and left the area without incident.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of vandalism. The damage was photographed.

• A runaway dog was turned over to a Lopez deputy. The Lopez Animal Protection Society was able to locate the dog’s caretaker, and the two were reunited.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of theft. An investigation revealed that no theft occurred as the parties were removing their own property.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a hunting violation, and Washington Department of Wildlife was notified.

• San Juan deputies investigated a report of vandalism.

• A Friday Harbor deputy issued citations to a driver for failing to obey a stop sign, having no proof of liability insurance and warnings for no registration in the vehicle and a defective brake light.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of threats. No crime appeared to have occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver without a driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid operator’s license with identification and insurance.

• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and issued a citation for speeding.

Feb. 1

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a theft call in Eastsound. There are no suspects at this time, and the case is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle with expired tabs. The driver was issued a citation for having expired registration over two months and not having insurance.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a welfare check near Eastsound. After making contact with the person, it was learned they were wanted on an out-of-county warrant. The person in question was arrested and transported to Friday Harbor.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a harassment call.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs and a defective headlight. The driver was issued a citation for having expired vehicle registration under two months and not having a valid operator’s license with identification.

• A deputy and EMS responded to a Lopez residence about a suspicious injured person complaint. No evidence of a crime was found.

Feb. 2

• Deputies issued a driver in Friday Harbor a citation for having expired vehicle registration and warnings for not having a driver’s license on their person and failing to stop at a stop sign.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a suspicious person passed out in a vehicle in front of a local business. Contact was made.

• A Lopez deputy contacted a vehicle’s owner about a parking problem in the village.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a complaint of assault. An investigation revealed that a male committed several felonies. He fled from deputies but was later arrested and booked into jail.

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to collect an unfamiliar puppy trying to follow people into a local business. The owner was identified and claimed the dog.

• Deputies were called about a dog running at large at a local park on Lopez. The dog owner was called to retrieve his dog.

• A deputy was dispatched to a mental health issue in the Friday Harbor area.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs. The driver was issued an infraction for not having insurance.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for a defective brake light. The driver was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and arrested. The vehicle was impounded, and a search warrant was executed.

Feb. 3

• A San Juan deputy was contacted by an inmate in the jail. The inmate attempted to bribe the deputy to destroy evidence and release them. The inmate has been charged with bribery.

• Deputies responded to a report of a wanted person in Friday Harbor. The person was located, arrested and booked, posted bail and was released.

• A Lopez man brought a dog that was found running at large along Center Road to the sheriff’s office. The owner was quickly identified with the assistance of the Lopez Animal Protection Society and reunited with the dog.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was issued a citation for driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of a dispute between roommates. The incident was a civil issue.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Lovers Lane. The driver was issued a citation for driving 36 mph in a 25 mph zone and for not having proof of insurance.

Feb. 4

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a runaway juvenile in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy located the juvenile.

• A deputy dispatched to a burglary in the San Juan area.

• A Lopez resident reported a vessel trespassing on a private mooring buoy in Fisherman Bay. The boat owner was contacted and said he tied up to the buoy, hoping to ride out the forecasted storm. The parties were put in contact with each other to resolve the matter.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a reported hit-and-run collision. The reporting party discovered damage to her vehicle approximately one week prior and wished to document the incident.

• Deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision in Friday Harbor. After further investigation, the driver was found to be impaired and taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Feb. 5

• Deputies responded to a complaint of a domestic violence no-contact order violation. After talking to the victim, it was determined probable cause existed to believe the victim’s ex-girlfriend was in violation of the order.
