Orcas man charged with assault

According to the deputy report, a witness saw a male subject punch a female in the face.

Trevor Cody Bruce, 31, has been charged with one count burglary in the first degree, one count assault in tandem with violation of a protection/no contact order and one count of violation of a no contact/protection order. All charges were classified as Domestic Violence.

Bail has been set at $50,000.

Bruce, a resident of Eastsound, allegedly unlawfully entered an apartment in the village on Aug. 22. According to the deputy report, a witness saw a male subject, believed to be Bruce, punch a female in the face.

The victim, who has had a no contact order against Bruce since April 27, told the deputy that he had entered through an unlocked back door unannounced. According to the report, the victim began yelling at Bruce to leave when he replied “shut the [expletive] up” and punched her in the mouth.

The deputy stated in his report that he believes Bruce had entered the home with the intent to assault the victim.

Bruce’s arraignment was on August 26. The next hearing dates at the San Juan County Superior Court are: Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. for omnibus; Oct. 7 for readiness; and trial is on Oct. 17.
