Open house to discuss airport master plan

The Orcas Island Airport is conducting a public open house to discuss its master plan.

The Orcas Island Airport, in coordination with DOWL, is conducting a public open house to discuss the Orcas Island Airport Master Plan.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Eastsound fire station. Members of the public are invited to join from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Project team members will be available during both meeting times to discuss the planning effort.

The Orcas Island Airport Master Plan is analyzing the current demand and forecasting future need to develop a plan supporting the needs of the airport over the next twenty years. The plan is examining the current aircraft fleet and new design aircraft; the runway protection zone; and potential opportunities to better support general aviation.

The purpose of these meetings is to introduce the plan to the public and provide the first opportunity to discuss the plan with project and airport staff.

More information is available at the airport website at portoforcas.com.

Public comment and review is a key part of the master plan update process, and the public is encouraged to attend.

If members of the public are unable to attend they may provide comments through the plan website or by contacting project manager Leah Henderson at orcasmasterplan@dowl.com or (425) 869-2670.
