A total of 88 anglers entered the 40th Annual American Legion Salmon Derby on Jan. 26-27. Organizers thank local merchants who donated a wide variety of door prizes. Thirty-three salmon were weighed in during the two days. The top five winners were all residents of Orcas Island.

• First place: Brian Schmitz, 12 lb. 5 oz., $ 1,100.

• Second place: John Cadden, 11 lb. 9 oz., $500.

• Third place: Dan Watters, 11 lb. 0 oz., $ 400.

• Fourth place: Edward Stone, 10 lb. 15 oz., $ 250.

• Fifth place: Jim Johnston, 10 lb. 13 oz., $100.

• Blind weight prizes went to Quaylan Hanson and Joseph Doty, who each received $150.
