The Food Bank’s new building is scheduled to arrive by ferry next week after delays by the Washington State Ferry System. The building will come in two sections on April 27 and 28 and be placed on the waiting foundation using rollers.

The building was completed by manufacturer M/Space Modular Buildings in mid-March. Food Bank director Larry Shaw said the board expected and arranged to carry $1 million worth of insurance to cover the transport of each section, and was waiting for the MV Chelan to return to the San Juans route. But when the Chelan arrived, WSF asked for double the insurance: $2 million for each trip.

Shaw contacted senator Kevin Ranker for assistance, and said as a result of Ranker’s intervention the WSF agreed to accept $1 million in coverage for each trip.

The transport must be synchronized with tide levels to keep the ferry dock ramps adequately horizontal for propery loading and unloading.
