DOT to remove tree in Moran State Park using explosives

Staff from the Washington State Department of Transportation are coming to Moran State Park to detonate a decaying tree.

“It is not safe to remove with a saw,” said park manager Chris Guidotti. “It’s a large tree that is completely rotten and is leaning towards campsites. This is the best way to do it so no one is hurt.”

The DOT will arrive on Oct. 30 in the late morning to early afternoon with the explosives, which need to be brought by boat because they can’t go on the ferry.

“The explosion will be heard all over that part of the island,” Guidotti said.
