Lecture about soil

Good soil is an important ingredient in the recipe for strong, healthy plants. Dr. Craig Cogger, a soil scientist from WSU, will be at the Orcas Center at 10 a.m. on April 19 to join the garden club in a talk about healthy soil. Organic farming systems, use of animal manure, biosolids and composts in agriculture and urban landscapes are topics well known to him. Learn how to build better soils, rich in nutrients, microbes, and best of all: earthworms.

Easter egg hunt

On Saturday, April 15 promptly at 10 a.m. the Orcas Lions Club will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt. This free Eggstravaganza will take place at the Cascade Lake Day Use Area of Moran State Park. April 15 is a Washington State Park “Free Parking Day” so a pass is not required to attend.

Mentors needed

The Funhouse Commons provides Orcas Island with traditional one-on-one mentor matches that link caring adults with youth in the community. Mentors do not need to have a background working with youth in order to make a difference. For info, contact Sarah McKay at 376-7177 or sarah@thefunhouse.org.

Funhouse Rummage Sale

The Funhouse begins remodeling on May 1 and has lots to sell. It will be on Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Funhouse. Items include audio/video equipment, books, X-boxes, Wiis, clothing, craft supplies, household items, toys and more.
