As part of its third annual “Get Off The Rock” College Counseling event, The Funhouse will bring Sarah Callendar, a Seattle-based college essay consultant, to the island to conduct a two-day college essay workshop for high school juniors. On Saturday, April 19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Sarah will provide instruction and inspiration to help students write essays that allow their voice, personality and unique attributes to shine. On Sunday, April 20, between 10 a.m.and 1 p.m., students are encouraged to bring an outline or rough draft of an essay and review the draft with Sarah in small group sessions.

Sarah is also available for two essay consults, via email, during the summer (no additional fee). Students should come ready to brainstorm, armed with pen, paper and any interesting essay prompts for their colleges of choice. The workshop will be held at the Orcas Public School Library.

Advance sign-up is required with preference given to juniors (enrolled in the public school, Christian school, home-school, and Alternative Learning programs).

Cost for Funhouse members to participate is $20; non-members fee is $30. To make reservations, ask questions, or request a scholarship for this event, please e-mail Jen Vollmer at or call 376-7177 no later than Friday, April 18th.
