A little history at the OIEF auction

Just a reminder that the Orcas Island Education Foundation’s annual fundraiser is June 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Four Winds Camp. Dinner will be provided by the Orcas Village Store. Anf there will be an auction. Some highlights of the live auction include: a Chinese cooking class including dinner (for 6), a locally-sourced “surf and turf” collection of seafood and meat, a cob-oven pizza party for up to 20 in the school garden (great idea for you child’s next birthday party!), and a vintage Vikings letterman sweater.

The sweater (donated by Lisa Boyd) belonged to Jack Porter. Jack graduated from Orcas High School in 1960. His home is the building now occupied by Tres Fabu and his parents family ran the old Porter Station (now home to Jillery/Madrona Bar and Grill/The Loft). There are Orcas Varsity Club, OIS 1960 Class, and Service Club pins attached to this pristine sweater. If you want to have a chance at owning this rare piece of Orcas history – or any of the other amazing items to be auction – you’ll have to attend this truly fun fundraiser. We hope you will consider supporting OIEF and our public schools by buying a ticket. They are $100, dinner/”libations” included. You can buy in person at the Chamber of Commere or on-line: https://oief.smalldognet.com/erp/donate/create?setc=1&funit_id=&event_date_id=1018&grant_id=
