After a recount, a winner was finally declared.

Vicki Vandermay beat Marian O'Brien for Orcas Parks and Rec Commissioner #1 with 794 votes vs. 790.

“It feels great to finally have the election over,” Vandermay said. “I feel like we’ve got a great group of commissioners and I feel good that the people of Orcas Island have put their trust in us to create a Parks and Recreation District that we can all be proud of.”

As a new commissioner, Vandermay says their first order of business will be to look at the programs Orcas already has.

“We'll be doing research on what works and what doesn’t, and involving the community in the process,” she said.
