San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

June 15: A Lopez Island woman was ticketed and faces a fine for allowing her dog to run out of her home and bite a 54-year-old woman walking on Snowberry Lane twice on the ankle. The 21-year-old reportedly admitted that lately her Jack Russell terrier has been a handful.

June 28: Allegations of assault prompted the arrest of an Orcas Island man for DUI following a predawn investigation that began in the parking lot of the Driftwood Apartments. The 25-year-old, who reportedly has no permanent home address and allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old man, was taken into custody in the in the parking lot of the Lovers’ Lane apartments at about 2:30 a.m.

An Orcas Island man suspects that two people he recently met and then allowed to stay overnight at his home are responsible for the apparent theft of his 40-caliber handgun. The 29-year-old reportedly discovered the Smith & Wesson, valued at $350, missing from his home the morning after he took it out of its case, showed it to his two house guests, and to his girlfriend of three months, the night before.
