From June 19 to 25, Orcas Fire & Rescue responded to two falls and ten medical emergencies and one hysterical reaction to pop star Michael Jackson's death. Six people were transported off island by Airlift Northwest.
The week's 13 emergencies required a total of 61 responses by individual members. The average medical call takes one paramedic and two to three additional responders and can last anywhere from 45 minutes to several hours.
