Long-time Lopez Island resident Leta Currie Marshall passed away on Feb. 20, 2009 from cardiac failure.

She is survived by her husband, Stewart Marshall and her daughter, Wendy Marshall.

Leta, born and raised in the South, was a wonderful and prolific writer for the Islands' Weekly newspaper for more than a decade. She was known for her soft humor and wry observation. Leta loved to write and belonged to a writer's group on Lopez made up of Iris Graville, Rita Larom, Lorna Reese, Helen Sanders, and Amalia Driscoll. Leta was also a passionate and talented musician and sang with the island's own a cappella group Lopez Sound. She was a compassionate and gentle woman, and she will be missed by many.
